A letter from the
Summer Reading Committee: To support summer reading, the Lebanon Schools and the Jonathan Trumbull Library have compiled lists of summer reading choices for students at all grade levels. Over the summer, students are expected to read at least two reading selections, which may be the reader's own choice OR chosen from the Lebanon Summer Reading Lists. These lists will be distributed with year-end information, but represent suggested titles. Parents are encouraged to participate in the book selection process to ensure that the book’s theme, reading level, and content area are age appropriate and respect the family’s values and interests. In the fall, students in Grade 2-12 will engage in classroom discussions or writing activities which focus on their summer reading choices. Students may also use their summer reading choices to participate in the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge. Elementary students will participate in the Principal-Governor's Reading Challenge as well. From read-alouds for younger children to the joint reading of an interesting fiction or non-fiction book, shared reading can spark family discussion and create a special connection between parent and child. Our summer reading goal is that all students establish and maintain a lifelong enthusiasm for reading. We hope that you share our enthusiasm for the summer reading experience and wish you a wealth of wonderful reading opportunities. Happy Reading from the 2008 Summer Reading Committee
