The Jonathan Trumbull Library, known for its warm and welcoming culture,
is seeking a new Director to lead our library community.
Our newly-renovated 14,000 sq. ft. building holds our 58,000+ collection and is maintained by a staff of 10 full and part-time employees. As a Connecticard library, we proudly serve Lebanon’s 7,500 residents, in addition to patrons from around the state, including the surrounding towns of of Andover, Bozrah, Colchester, Columbia, Coventry, Franklin, Hebron, Mansfield, Scotland, Sprague, Windham, and Willimantic.

Throughout construction in 2022, the library circulated over 51,000 items while hosting an average of 70 free educational, entertaining, multi-generational, and cultural events each month. Each summer, Jonathan Trumbull Library is the Summer Reading hub for Lebanon Public Schools’ K-12 students. Our inventory of board games, puppets, 3D printers, sewing machine, VR headset, green screen, projector, and more allow our patrons to explore hobbies from the past, present, and future.



The library is located in the Lebanon Green Historic District and overlooks the mile-long Town Green; one of the last greens in New England to be used for agricultural purposes. It is a popular location for our community to convene for recreation year round as well as the annual bonfire, tree lighting, antique show, and the Summer Dance Fest.

Jonathan Trumbull Library, located on the historic Lebanon Green, is seeking an energetic Library Director to lead our vibrant team in a beautiful, newly-renovated building. The Director will work in partnership with the Board of Trustees to carry out the mission of the library.
Main Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership for the overall effective and efficient operation and growth of the library
• Recommend, plan, and direct the goals, objectives, and operations of the library
• Oversee public relations to inform the public of library resources and promote the library
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with the public, officials, and organizations
• Stay current with library trends via consortia and other professional organizations
• Prepare and manage all aspects of the budget
• Develop and maintain library collection
• Manage personnel: training, hiring, performance management, work assignments, and schedules
• Supports and facilitates the work of the Friends of the Library
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and occasional Saturdays.
Key Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum three years of library administrative experience and at least one year in a supervisory capacity
• Minimum two years experience with budget management
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and cloud-based software
• Knowledge of web development, social media platforms
• Superior oral and written communication skills, including public speaking
• Ability to think analytically and to develop new services
• Have an open-door policy for both staff and patrons
Salary and Benefits:
Salary range $62,000-$73,000, depending on experience. Benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, pension, paid holidays and sick time.
