Come hear Derek Piotr - folklorist, researcher, and performer - as he shares his process of journeying from Iceland to Appalachia, collecting over 1500 audio recordings made from March 2020 onward as proof of oral tradition persisting in the twenty-first century. His work is focused on the power of the unsung voice, of 'common' people, and of oral history and the ability of people to tell their own stories: tender, brutal, and beautiful. As reviewers have written, his work "collects and records folk songs, poems, hymns, and other auditory artifacts" and "documents and preserves the oral traditions of folk songs as sung by ordinary people" from all ages and walks of life.
